One of the joys of being a moderator is the variety of events that I host. Recently I was Master of Ceremonies at the opening of an exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels organised by Polish MEP Mirosława Nykiel, under the patronage of the Polish Presidency. The exhibition entitled “Coronation – Women Fighting Cancer” was created by costume designer and makeup artist Beata Bojda who crafted traditional floral crowns made of crepe paper for the women who had undergone or were receiving treatment for cancer. The exhibition is intended to portray the strength and resilience of women battling cancer as well as raise awareness about the importance of early diagnoses.
Poland’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Agnieszka Bartol, said that health security is a priority during Poland’s EU presidency in the first half of 2025, with a focus on cancer prevention and treatment.
Among those photographed was celebrated Polish singer and cancer survivor Anna Wyszkoni. Her emotional performance thrilled the audience capturing the bittersweet mood of the evening. While we celebrated the courage of the women in the photographs there were tears as well as several of those photographed had not survived their battle with cancer.
